General information

Location and Area

Norway is located in northern Europe, bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, west of Sweden, Finland and Russia. It covers an area of 324.220 km2, with 27% forests and woodland, 3% arable land and 70% of other land.

Terrain

Glaciated; mostly high plateaus and rugged mountains broken by fertile valleys; small, scattered plains; coastline deeply indented by fjords; arctic tundra in north. Lowest point: Norwegian Sea 0 m. Highest point: Glittertinden 2,472 m

Climate

Temperate along coast, modified by North Atlantic Current; colder interior; rainy year-round on west coast.

Hunting

The main game species are Moose, Roe deer, Red deer, Reindeer, Ptarmigan, Ducks, Black grouse, Capercaillie, Wood Pigeon, Crow and Jay.

Hunters

There are around 177.600 hunters in Norway who pay the annual game hunting fee (i.e. game hunting license). A total of 4,00 percent of Norway's population hold a game hunting license ( 0,54 pr. km2 ).
