| The trip
Red deer hunting in the Scottish highlands. The district is located around the Ardnamurchan Peninsula west of Fort William in Scotland. The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is the most westerly point on the British Mainland. The wildlife of the area ranges from species such as the otter and pine marten to deer, wild cat, golden eagle, and the grey seal.
The trip was booked at the Danish hunting agency "Artemis Jagt" about 8 month ago. The price per hunter is 13.495,00 DKR. The first payment was made in February and the second and last payment was made in September.
The trip includes:
- Up to 5 days of hunting depending on the success
- 2 Red deer Stags per hunter (The stalker decides what deer to shoot). Extra Stags 250 £ each.
- Stalker 2:1 (1 stalker for 2 hunters)
- Visitor's Firearm Permit
- Transport by plane from Esbjerg in Denmark to Aberdeen in Scotland
- Rental car for transport in Scotland
- Hotel including breakfast, packed lunch and Dinner
In order to get a Visitor's Firearm Permit we had to send our European firearms passport and a copy of our Danish firearms license and Danish game hunting license to the agency. This was done about 3 month before going to Scotland, everything was returned to us including the Visitor's Firearm Permit about 2 month later.
The following advise was send to us by the agency:
- Hunting in the Scottish highland requires the hunter to be in good shape. Walking up to 20 km a day is not unusual.
- Shots for up to 200 m must be expected. The hunter (and equipment) must be able to hit a target of 10 by 10 cm from a distance of 100 m.
- If a deer can be shot is up to the stalker.
- It is custom to give the stalker a tip of 5 £ for each point on the head.
- If bad weather (fog) makes hunting in the highland impossible, hunting in lower forest areas are available.
- Trophy heads must be cleaned by the hunter.
- It is custom not to go hunting in Scotland on Sundays.
